“Let Them Eat Cake” is a puppet farce that is a nesting of all the ideas of the Reds and Greys. The script utilizes the clever servant and gullible master theater trope. However the Reds — Wizard and Vaneeta, are determined to cheat their way to winning the prize for the best cake. While the Grey Cook is bent on making money and getting out of town. The masked Puppetmaster, later a puppet as well, is on stage as we are introduced to the Cook, Wizard and Lady Vaneeta puppets. The two contestants sabotage the cakes. The Red Judge is delighted to collect bribes. The intermixing of live performance, specially composed music, black and white “flashbacks” in the action, various size puppets, and an audience of Greys who at first are truculent and then excited as the contest plays out creates a unique layering of imagery and action. All props, figures, performances, sets, music, graphics, photography, editing, costumes, and script are created B. Lynch.
